EL CAIRO.- (Prensa Latina) The year 2016 ends for Israel and Palestine the same as it started, with regular incursions by Israel in Palestinean territories, towns and cities, frequently ending adding civil victims to a long list that started counting over 50 years ago.

Besides the traditional Palestinean pacific public protests, while Israeli troops do not start the violence, in numerous occasions registered the reaction, individual (and occasionally excessive) on the part of Palestinean citizens against occupiers in the form of attacks with white weapons.

As a consequence, since October 2015 until the end of 2016, over 240 Palestineans were killed by the Tel-Aviv troops, in several occasions in extrajudicial execution style, even documented by amateur videos.

On the other side, as the brutal imbalance of power shows between occupants and occupiers, in that period 38 israelis died.

All that was part of the stagnant peace process since 2014, and the context of the failure in 2016 of the conciliatory initiatives proposed by France and Egypt, in which Tel Aviv demands the recognition of Israel as a Hebrew State and the Palestine National Authority as non-negotiable premise the stop of Israeli colonization.

It is foreseeable that considering that reality, any international effort destined to mediate in the Israeli-Palestinean conflict would be beforehand condemned to failure in 2017.

Also and unfortunately for the Palestinean people, during 2016 internal divisions in several of their political parties, mainly Al Fatah, based in the occupied West Bank and Hamas that governs in the Gaza Belt.

Inside Israel, the government of Benjamin Netanyahu, with Knesset (parliament) majority, ended 2016 amid certain political and economic stability, with the aggregate value of having managed to receive from the United States military aid for 3.8 billion dollars a year, the highest ever allocation until now.

However, with the surprising abstention of Washington last December 23, the UN Security Council approved a resolution, number 2334, that demands to put an end to the illegal Israeli colonies in Palestinean lands.

The SC document demands that 'Israel ceases immediately and completely, the settlements on occupied Palestinean territories.

For Zehava Galon, leader of the Israeli party Meretz, the resolution 2334 of the CS was 'the direct result of the law being discussed at the Knesset to legitimize judicially the settlements, with Israel having lost all its embarrassment and the world having exhausted its patience'.

That is, at least in the international arena, the reality of Palestine and Israel that could be changed, very slightly, taking into account that the president elect of the United States, Donald Trump, definitely favors Israeli policies.
