HAVANA.- (ACN) The Climate Center published in its most recent bulletin that 44 percent of the archipelago presented deficits in its rainfall during the past year.

The publication specified that of the total, 11 percent received the category of severe, 14 moderate and 10 percent weak.

It also emphasizes that in the 56 municipalities of the provinces of Villa Clara, Cienfuegos, Sancti Spiritus, Ciego de Avila and Camaguey 25 percent of its areas are affected by a moderate to extreme drought.

Among the most affected territories were Ciro Redondo and Florencia (Ciego de Avila), Lajas (Cienfuegos), Remedios (Villa Clara) and Jatibonico, Taguasco, Yaguajay and Sancti Spiritis (Sancti Spiritus).

Experts of the Climate Center of the Meteorological Institute warned that it is important to pay close attention to the weather forecasts for February due to the fact that 2016 was a year with low rainfall.

They based this in that February is the fourth month of the period with less rain in the country and the precipitation depends on the northern systems that reach the island.

There was little rain in most of the country in the last decade, mainly in the western and central regions.
