HAVANA.- The new agreement ratified by the Telecommunications Company of Cuba (ETECSA) and the subsidiary Google Global Cache, this Monday in Havana, is aimed at reducing the access time to some content of Google.

Thus, the agreement concluded on 23 November, as reported in a press conference, has been reaffirmed through its signing. The agreement deals with the access to Google Global Cache (GGC) —remember that Google is a subsidiary of the multinational Alphabet Inc., a server system that allows ETECSA to use its technology to reduce latency (delays) and allow the local delivery of some of the company's most popular content, which requires a higher bandwidth, like YouTube videos.

In addition, ETECSA has expressed in a press release that this agreement optimizes the capacities in its international network.

According to the official Google blog, the Cubans using the services of GGC will see an improvement in terms of quality. In addition to YouTube, GGC includes other products such as the search engine and Gmail.

Google recalled in its statement, that Google launched products for Cuba since 2014, like the Chrome browser, Google Play store and Google Analytics. A couple of months ago Google made available to Cuba the extensions of the Chrome Web Store that allows customizing the experience in Google's browser.

However, important products like Code, Appengine, Swiffy, Earth, Web Designer, Sites or Page Speed Insights, just to mention some of them, still remain closed to Cuba.

The agreement was ratified by ETECSA’s CEO Mayra Arevich Marin and Google's Chief Executive Eric Schmidt.
