HAVANA.-(ACN) The historic leader of the Cuban Revolution Fidel Castro was interred in the Santiago de Cuba´s Santa Ifigenia cemetery this Sunday December 4, along side the tombs of Cuba’s most exalted national heroes.
At seven in the morning, the funeral procession carrying his ashes in a small, flag-draped cedar casket, travelled the streets of the Cuban second-largest city, where thousands of Cubans watched it in silence.
The Cuban leader died last Friday November 25, at 10.29 PM, at 90 years of age, and for nine days a national mourning was held. The funeral procession travelled for 4 days from Havana city, where Cubans lined the highway waving flags and chanting, “I am Fidel! I am Fidel!”
Saturday night, hundreds of thousands of Cubans crowded the Antonio Maceo Revolution Square for the last tribute, where the Cuban President Raul Castro delivered a last speech, after the leaders of the main Cuban mass grassroots organizations spoke.
In a very moving speech, Raul vowed to keep Fidel´s legacy, to fight for the Revolution and Socialism, and added that the Cuban leader´s last will was that not street or place will be named after him. Also, that he didn’t wish that statutes of him would be built.
