HAVANA, CUBA.-  (ACN) The president of the Cuban Arab Union Dr. Alfredo Deriche told reporters that the Congress will focus on the unity, identity, culture and peace not  only  of the Arab-descent people in The Americas but also of the Arabs in the Middle East.

“We are experiencing critical times. The situation in countries like Palestine and Syria is unsustainable,” said Deriche and added that the Arab world is divided, so this congress, the second to take place in Cuba, aims  at promoting the unity of Arab people.”

Among the countries confirmed at the forum are Uruguay, Chile, Panama, Argentina and Brazil. Organizers also expect the attendance of the Arab communities in El Salvador, Nicaragua, Venezuela, Honduras, Colombia and Bolivia.

FEARAB-AMERICA was founded in 1973 as a natural bridge between Arab countries and their descendants in this part of the world. Cuba joined the organization in 1981 during the 5th Congress, held in Washington D.C.

In Cuba there are more than 45 thousand Arab descendants, most of who are of Palestinian, Lebanese and Syrian origin. In the American continent there are nearly 20 million people of Arab descent.
