The meeting was announced early hours on Friday through a joint communique by the Holy See and  Moscow’s Patriarchy, which explained that Pope Francis and Patriarch Kirill will meet February 12 in Havana.

According to the joint communiqué Pope Francis and Patriarch Kirill will hold talks and sign a  joint declaration at the Jose Marti International Airport, during a stop-over by the Pope in his route to Mexico.

Meanwhile the Patriarch will visit Cuba and other Latin American nations.

The meeting, which has been prepared for a long time, is expected to become a milestone in bilateral relations between the Catholic and the Orthodox churches.
