At the inauguration of the drills here, Teresa Rojas, president of the Provincial Defense Council (CPD, in Spanish), urged to "be prepared with plans in line with the territory's vulnerabilities."

CPD Vice President Tania Leon pointed out that authorities are working to determine the region's capacities to deal with any adverse situation.

According to the plans by the Civil Defense (DC) in Matanzas, officials from the meteorological department and the local delegations of science, technology and environment, water resources, public health, housing, communications and veterinary will report on their capabilities.

Practical actions are scheduled for Sunday, including cleaning works, the elimination of small dumps, the fight against vectors and the reinforcement of roofs.

Meteoro-2015 will be carried out in 13 municipalities in Matanzas with participation of working groups and subgroups to review the measures to be taken to reduce and mitigate the impact of natural disasters.
