Gathered at the Havana's Conference Center, about 2,000 scientists and officials from 30 countries has the challenge to achieve a united and sustainable Latin America and Caribbean region, organizers of this meeting stated.

Besides geographers, biologists, geologists, economists, sociologists and architects of the region and from Russia, Spain, Portugal, Germany, and Canada will also participate in debates.

The forum includes more than 4,000 papers, which is a record for being the larger one organized here, Alberto Garcia, scientific secretary of the event, stated.

According to the agenda previously delivered to the press, Jose Mateo, president of the Cuban Society of Geography, will give the opening lecture "The challenges of geography in Cuba in the first quarter of 21st century."

A collateral exhibition will be later opened in which some 15 Cuban companies will participate and theoretical presentations structured in 13 themes will be opened.

Globalization, integration, territorial dynamics, rural areas, agriculture and food security, and environmental issues, climate change and risk management are among the issues convened for the forum, whose upcoming edition will be in 2017 at a southern hemisphere's country.
