The process will begin in Habana del Este, and will be gradually expanded to the rest of the capital's municipalities in the second semester of 2014, and to the remaining provinces during 2015, informed Colonel Mario Mendez, first second chief of the Department of Identification and Immigration (DIIE).

With a validity of 10 years starting from its possession, the card is made of quality materials and its use will guarantee higher security in the
current national identity system. According to Mendez, the new document will have the identity number printed in relief, a hologram associated to lamination, a photograph and digital and printed signature, micro-texts, and areas of mechanical reading that could be later used for other functions.

The high technology used will make it possible, in the future, to include data on voice, iris and ADN of the person, he specified.
