HAVANA.- Only two hours after the electoral colleges opened their doors, 2 690 419 people exercised their right to vote for the new Constitution of the Republic of Cuba.

The figure represents 30.64% of the total number of voters, said Maria Esther Bacallao, secretary of the National Electoral Commission (CEN by its Spanish acronym) when announcing the second report of her institution about the attendance at the polls that began operating at 7:00 am, under the custody of members of the Jose Marti Pioneers Organization.

Bacallao described as positive the results of the popular referendum, to which more than eight million Cubans are summoned.

The official compared the data with those of last March for the election of provincial delegates and deputies to the National Assembly of People's Power and said that at that same time exceeds them by 11 percent.
