HAVANA.- We will always continue fighting for the end of the blockade. It is an unjust decision against the people and it has not allowed Cuba to develop, Salvador Sanchez Ceren, president of El Salvador, said after his arrival in Havana for an official visit.

In the recent sessions of the UN General Assembly we gave support to Cuba and we are about to participate in other forums and we will continue supporting the demand that the unjust blockade that the United States has imposed on the Cuban people must cease, the Central American leader told the press.

Sanchez Ceren was received at JoseMarti International Airport by Rogelio Sierra, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, and in his statements he conveyed a greeting to Army General Raul Castro, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Cuban Communist Party, and to Miguel Diaz-Canel, President of the Councils of State and Ministers. This is the second official visit made to Cuba by the Salvadoran President; the first one was in 2015, an occasion in which both nations established 12 cooperation projects, seven of which have already concluded, in areas such as health, education and business partnerships.

When assessing the common bonds, Sanchez Ceren said that as a result of the Operacion Milagro (Miracle Operation) and the ophthalmological center that now exists in the Central American country, 20,000 Salvadorans have regained their sight and more than 108,000 consultations have been made; in addition, about 330,000 people have been alphabetized through the Cuban method ¨Yo sí puedo¨ (I do can).

By the end of June 2018, 67 Salvadorans were studying in Cuba as part of a cooperation program that extends to medical collaboration, protection of the environment and agriculture.
