During a presentation organized by the Mexican Movement of Solidarity with Cuba, in central Mexico City, Coll stressed the ability of the leader of the Cuban Revolution to transcend the limits of a small island, and become what she described as the leading statesman of our time.

Coll told Prensa Latina that even today, in retirement from his official duties, Fidel Castro continues to point the way forward, warning about dangers to humanity, through his reflections released by Cuban and international media.

From an early age, the Cuban leader demonstrated an uncanny foresight about the battles to come and the goals to be met, she noted.

He was totally accurate when, from the Sierra Maestra, he saw U.S. manufactured bombs being dropped on Cuban peasants' homes and observed that the real, long-term war would be against American imperialism, she added.

In addition, she mentioned the hundreds of assassination attempts Washington had organized against the head of the Cuban State, who survived more than 10 U.S. administrations.

Coll recalled the many stages of the Cuban revolutionary struggle, and mentioned the description written by Commander Ernesto Che Guevara, when he said that a statesman like Fidel Castro was never more brilliant than during the so-called October missile crisis in 1962.

The Cuban Revolution has resisted attack over more than 50 years, and that has been possible due to the unity forged by Fidel and his people, to face the aggressions and destabilizing plans the United States has continued to unleash against Cuba, she concluded. Coll is one of the founders of Mexico's solidarity movement with the Caribbean island.
