HAVANA.- Cuba pays special attention to the socio-economic development of the country and the welfare of its population and there is a will to develop computerization of Cuban society and access to Internet, said Maimir Mesa, Minister of Communications.

During the inauguration of the 6th Latin American Telecommunication Congress the minister noted that this process is conceived as a space for access to information, social communication and cooperation in terms of sustainable human development.

In this regard, he assured how despite the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States government for more than six decades, Cuba updates its economic model with aimed at achieving a productive, efficient and sustainable system.

Mesa added that the meeting is also conducive to discussing and agreeing positions to facilitate the implementation of public policies, the development of ICT and the strengthening of the digital ecosystem.

The 6th Latin American Telecommunications Congress taking place at the Melia Marina Varadero hotel, in Matanzas province, is attended by important personalities and organizations from that field and its main goal is promoting, as Mesa stated, a platform to boost exchange and cooperation among its members.
