HAVANA.- An exhibition of Cuba’s main assistance programs, education and international medical cooperation was inaugurated on Monday at the Convention Center in Havana as part of the 3rd International Cuba Health 2018 Convention.

Drs. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus and Carrisa Etienne, General Direcdtors of the World and Pan American Health Organizations (WHO/PAHO) respectively, cut the red tape with the presence of the Head of the International Relations Department of the Central Committee of the Cuban Communist Party and other authorities.

Dr. Alfredo Gonzalez, Deputy Health Minister, said before the presence of foreign delegations attending the event, that Cuba’s public health constitutes the essence of the revolutionary government placing its development as a priority.

The political commitment and the potential present in our health professionals have allowed the current outcome that we exhibit today in this exhibition, made up by the main scenario of the sector, he said.

The exhibition displays the country’s results in medical cooperation with an example of a tent hospital of the Henry Reeve International specialized medical contingent in situations of disaster and serious epidemics.

A broad stand is dedicated to primary attention offering promotion, prevention, recovery and rehabilitation.

Other examples include comprehensive community rehabilitation services and dentistry, training of health professionals and education and preventive actions that influences the development of the sector.

The Latin American School of Medicine, ELAM, is also present created with the ideas and direction of the leader of the Revolution Fidel Castro and destined to train doctors for Latin America and other parts of the world.

Gonzalez pointed out that the inauguration of the exhibition comes in the context in which the Health Minister is undergoing transformations to continue advancing in the improvement of the health of the population, give responses to the growing demand in the quality of health services and satisfaction in addition to efficiency and sustainability in the system guaranteeing its development.

The inauguration of the 14th Health for All Fair was also inaugurated on Monday in Havana’s Pabexpo Exhibition Hall and the launching of the activity for Vaccination in the Americas Week held in Cuba for the first time.

“Universal Health for sustainable development” is the convention’s slogan with the commitment of promoting debates on the health situation in the world and as a space of reflection oriented to discussion on the most relevant issues of the international agenda in the sector.
