HAVANA.-The National Institute of Water Resources (INRH) continues in the rehabilitation of the aqueduct and sewage network and drinking water in several cities in the country estimated at 51 million 091 thousand pesos thanks to international cooperation.

The Specialist of International Relations, Anett Turino Hernandez told the press on Tuesday in Havana that they will begin or continue working in different projects this year starting from the funds coming from credits and donations.

According to the source, the majority of the financing (50 million 032 pesos) corresponds to credits, still operative, from Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and the OPEP Fund for International Development.

The specialist stressed that such loans -conceived under favorable payment conditions-, currently support programs related with the recovery of the supply and hygiene systems in the cities of Havana, Camaguey, Bayamo and Cardenas.

He explained that in the case of donations, over one million pesos from Europe, Asia, Oceania, and the UN Development Program will be executed in projects located in Granma, Sancti Spiritus, Pinar del Rio, Guantanamo and Holguin.

Turino Hernandez added that there are other donations, mainly from China, oriented to the purchase of specialized equipment.

With the objective of alleviating what is destined by the State budget to this prioritized sector, Cuba has been carrying out for over five years the financial modality of credits and donations to recover its systems and supply and sewage networks in addition to the installation of plants to secure the quality of water.

According to the specialist, the foreign financing has not only been used in modernizing the infrastructure but in strengthening the scientific and technological capacities of the entities related with the sector.
