HAVANA.-  The Historian of the city of Havana, Dr. Eusebio Leal Spengler received on Wednesday in the Cuban capital the Patria Newspaper Award granted by the Jose Marti Cultural Society.

During the ceremony held at the Center’s headquarters the Executive Secretary of the Cultural Society, Carlos Medina highlighted the merits of Eusebio Leal in the promotion and knowledge of the thinking of the Cuban National Hero.

The award named after the daily founded by Jose Marti, Leal said that the distinction commits him to continue his work.

Previously the City Historian presented the 51st edition of the magazine Honda dedicated to the 165th anniversary of the birth of the Cuban independence leader.

The moderator highlighted the merits of Jose Marti as an artist and revolutionary fighter especially the importance of celebrating Marti’s birthday across the country.

He stressed that a replica of the statue of Jose Marti will inaugurated on January 28th, a Cuban flag will be hoisted on February 24th in the dome of the Capitol building and on March 1st the doors will be open in the Capitol’s Pasos Perdidos Hall and the Library.

The new edition of Honda contains articles that highlight the important work of Marti in New York, a tribute of the University of Zaragoza and a ceremony of INHUMACION of the remains of Carlos Manuel de Cespedes and Mariana Grajales in Santa Ifigenia Cemetery in Santiago de Cuba.

Participating in the event were the Hero of the Republic of Cuba and Vice President of the Jose Marti Cultural Society, Rene Gonzalez and Eloisa Carreras and Graciela Rodriguez, widow and advisor of Armando Hart, respectively.
