HAVANA.- Providing higher quality of services in the current high tourist season, in which Cuba hopes to reach the record figure of 4,700 000 visitors, was one of the points in the Plenary of the National Union of Hotel and Tourism Workers (SNTH by its Spanish acronym).

The effort of the workers of this sector during the recovery process after the passage of Hurricane Irma last September was highlighted in the meeting,
actions that allowed starting the winter season with all facilities operational.

Luis Miguel Diaz, Cuba´s Tourism vice-minister, said that due to these efforts, the sector is in a better position to welcome a greater influx of visitors, while ratifying the certainty that the country will exceed this year the aforementioned figure of international travelers.

The official predicted that this will be a good season, based on the favorable forecasts shown by the air and cruise operations.

Another issue discussed was the importance of strengthening integration with the non-state sector, which includes around 2,000 restaurants and more than
22,000 rooms providing lodging service.

According to data provided by SNTH, until October this body grouped 85,560 members, 69,345 out of them belonging to the state sector, 15,480 non-state
workers and 1,735 retirees.
