HAVANA, CUBA.- (ACN) The National Committee of the Federation of Cuban Women (FMC) met on Wednesday in Havana to discuss strengthening preventive, educational and social work in the community.

The meeting headed by Teresa Amarelle, General Secretary of the FMC evaluated issues of impact in society like confronting social indiscipline, trafficking and drug consumption, prostitution and gender violence.

She highlighted that the members of the FMC have the duty and capacity of approaching families and vulnerable women and contributing to the modification of the complex communities of the territory.

Yaumara la Rosa, member of the Provincial Committee of the FMC emphasized that the neighborhood constitutes the first front before any illegalities and with an adequate orientation, there could be good results.

She added that when one goes to work in this context, one must feel the problem and approach the family with sensibility, talk to them in their own language in order to help.

Amarelle recognized the over four million FMC members in the country for their important role in the recovery process after Hurricane Irma las September.
The meeting also referred to the “Somos Revolution” (We are Revolution) political process directed at young women with the objective of committing them to the organization.

The FMC declaration was approved which condemns the economic, financial and commercial blockade imposed by the United States against Cuba for almost six decades.
