CAMAGUEY.- (ACN) The eastern Cuban province of Camaguey, with the largest reservoir infrastructure in the country, capable of storing over 1.2 billion cubic meters of water, suffers an extreme drought.

The reservoirs only have 25 percent of their capacity fulfilled, and the government is implementing stiff measures to control the use of water.

Despite the efforts, some 13 thousand people in the province only have access to underground water, according to a report from the National Institute of Water resources (INRH by its Spanish acronym).

The reservoirs with lesser amount of water are used for the irrigation of crops, while the others are saved only for human consumption. The Agriculture Ministry and the private farmers work hard to guarantee their productions under harsh conditions.
