CAMAGUEY- In March, we are always nervous and committed which is translated in the opening of newspaper Patria. In March 14th, Martí decided once to “enlighten” us with the most appropriate manual for this trade. And, as well as all Cuban journalists, the Camagüey´s journalists become his most willing pupils.
Our press is celebrating its anniversary. This symbolic date is a great reason to prepare us a whole framework of reciprocities, learning and festivities. Because from tomorrow until March 23rd, there will be “class” in the program of activities.
The caricaturists will draw his “Reflections”. The researcher Luis Álvarez will lead us to drink from the knowledge of another trade´s personality through the conference “Historic roots of Camagüey´s journalism. The figure of Márquez Sterling”. With a feminist approach, we will talk on March 8th about the connections about women and journalism.
Fidel will not be forgotten, he is never absent. That´s why we will do an introspection exercise about what is capable our media to achieve in special coverage. The most recent experience: the death of the Commander, indicates that the media influences a lot in the public opinion. With the guidance of Professor Ángela María Benítez Quevedo we will decipher in Martí all the periods of Patria.
On March 11th, a friendly softball game between Camagüey and Las Tunas will take place; on the 13th, the award ceremony of the Provincial Contest of Journalism Carlos Bastidas will occur. The 14th we will meet in Martí Park in this city to blow candles and fill ourselves with the energy of the National Hero in order to continue “writing” Patria from the journalism that Camagüey needs.
Other meaningful exchanges will take place with writers and artists of the province, with members of the branch of the Cuban Society of Philosophic Research, and with the journalist Ariel Terrero, member of the national committee of the Upec and director of the International Institute of Journalism José Martí.
In addition to the legacy of Martí in Fidel, the 125 anniversary of the newspaper Patria and the 50 anniversary of the physical disappearance of Che, and the centenary of Félix Elmuza´s birth, (journalist and member of the Granma expedition, in Camagüey we also celebrate the 60 anniversary of Radio Cadena Agramonte and the work of our caricaturists. You already know it: sound and art, or simply art, will be the main course of our “menu” in the classroom. Let the class continue.
