Few days ago, before the presence of journalists and other workpeople of the center, the M.Sc. Alejandro Bonet Piñón read the evaluation of the M.Sc. Juan Carlos Mejías Ruiz, specialist of the Provincial Council of Visual Arts, on the naif artist:

The exhibit, concerning the scholarship of creation “Ana Rosa Gutiérrez“, granted by the National Center of Houses of Culture to the artist Luis Manuel Torres Viamontes, groups 12 works, realized fundamentally in the present year.

This artist follows the tradition of typical social chronicle of the naif painting, where he recreates the history of the common people, of the events of the quarter and of the city, a look that includes the architecture and the social spaces, but more than the buildings and distinguished places, to what it happens in these spaces, situations that otherwise would get lost in the whirlpool of the complex social skein, everything comes to his linen.

His work is meticulously clean, happy and coloring, going so far as to use profusely the interior spaces and every opportunity to imagine or reproduce a situation that turns into another history to be counted.

This "care for the details" in the making of the work makes us stop more time of the expected in every piece, enjoying the vision that this Camagüeyan has of his city environment.

A few years ago, in the words to an exhibition realized by Manuel in the same space, I used a term that then and now I consider to be right, little by little and with a stable and prolific work this artist has turned, for good, into “the painter of the city”.
