The ceremony was carried out this day in Camagüey in the properties of the church of Nuestra Señora de la Caridad del Cobre, with the presence of the president of Councils of State and Ministers, Army General Raúl Castro and ecclesiastic authorities, in representation of the Vatican and of Cuba.

In the Cuban history it was the first time that was carrying out a rite of this type that needed, in advance, quite a process, kicked off in 1989, according to the norms of the Holy See up to be approved, finally by the Supreme Pontiff Benedict XVI.

Father Olallo, in whose honor works here a home for the elderly and a streets of this metropolis with his name, had many gestures of humanism and of approach to the poor people.

According to references Father Olallo assumed the action of cleanliness of the gory and covered with mud face of General Ignacio Agramonte, fallen down in combat on May 11th, 1873 in Jimaguayú, to the south of this city and brought in the dawn of the following day up to San Juan de Dios Square by a column of Spanish military men.

In a circulated leaflet, in occasion of the act of Beatification, is indicated that Father Olallo remained for almost 54 years, up to his death in San Juan de Dios hospital, of the city of Camagüey like kind, nearby and solicitous nurse.

Let's not forget that it was an epoch in which for the wars, the epidemics, the slavery and the neglect, the Camagüeyan society was suffering the biggest poverty and misery.
