That's why it does not turn out to be strange that so many of its settlers take the highway towards any of the spas of the province, with more than half hundred kilometers.

Those who do not want or cannot do it have in the Cuban Institute of Sports the surest option. Especially because on its care depends the only swimming pool of the territory that since 1976 is located in the point where there are the communities of Céspedes and Estrella.

Winifred Luciano Yera says that “I come almost every day and I remain until it closes. The things is here there is ambience, they organize games and the music is always present; the only thing I would criticized is that the same offer is not supported during the whole year and if one starts thinking in other months there is practically the same temperature and the youth keeps on needing places to go”.

Swimming pool of all

Unusual for its place and longevity, the swimming pool of the municipality of Carlos Manuel de Céspedes is -in fact- a fruit of a lot of efforts and care. And the fact is that in its almost four decades this installation has never received a cardinal maintenance.

“The tubes that we have are originals, of iron, so you already will imagine how they are after so many years of continuous use and for the effect of the chlorine”, mentions Ramón Blanco Culay, assistant director of the sports center Ernesto Che Guevara, in charge of the installation. “If it were not for the effort of our eight workers, the support of the Government and other entities some time ago that we had had to close. Fortunately, whenever we have a problem we find a solution. The important fact is that the swimming pool opens and the people have fun”.

But they need some resources to repair the roofs and to change the tanks of recirculation is a dream for René González Triana, technician of the swimming pool since 1982. “This year we have had to work very much, since the devices deteriorate and it is hard to maintain. With a small investment, the majority of these difficulties might be solved and we would assume in better conditions the recreational activities”.
