The M.Sc. Mercedes Escuredo Olazábal, head of this field in Camagüey, explained to Adelante newspaper that "the lack is not only because of the deficit of teachers, but also because we have them in our staff but they are physically absent from the clasrooms.

Almost 900 of these necesities are due to inactivity, since it is a sector where women represent the mayority and many of them are in maternity leaves, sick, have little kids or elders to take care of. Their absence turns into deficit because today less and less youngsters want to be teachers and there are not teachers reserve in this province."

The Educational Direction as immediate palliative, adopt as strategy to carry out part-time contracts to professionals from other sectors and go on with the support of the university students, the ones that will teach in polytechnical institutions.

Also, their main priorities are  to do debates in neighborhoods and public hearings, to develop a better work with the special interest clubs and the training of teachers that are not teaching today since we need to change the way society looks at teachers.

Escuredo Olazábal said that even with such lack of teachers that has been affencting this province during many years, "Camagüey shows good outcomes in the teaching process, since it is among the four provinces in the country obtaining good results in the entrance exams, also it has the second position in the national knowledge contests of pre-universities and in this same position is the pedagogical school Nicolás Guillén."

The provinces with the biggest teachers decificit along with Camagüey are Havana, Matanzas and Ciego de Ávila.
