The recovery of no les than 150water deposits and 10 000 new hectares of pasture and the rehabilitation of livestock units this year in Camaguey, are the signature of the rescue of the cattle in this province.

In this territory the Commandant Fidel Castro Ruz designed the plan of development called Cuenca Lechera, collapsed in the special period afetr the break-up of the socialist camp and the intensification of the economic blockade of the United States against the island.

However, by means of an integral program, led by the political authorities and the Ministry of the Agriculture in the province, more than 100 micro-reservoirs were recovered in Sibanicú, Jimaguayú and Guáimaro.

In this region have been planted 1 555.5 hectares of pastures with cane, king grass, moringa, among others.

Elbis Pérez Olivera, provincial delegated of the agriculture, pointed out that they make use of the moisture and the drying of the grounds to increase the sowings in the next months of July, August and September in order to overcome the annual plan before the dry period.

Pérez Olivera added that with the incorporation of around 100 tractors repaired and a group of new devices of high potency as the DT-75 and the bulldozers, they advance in the reestablishing of old water sources, wich will make possible the use of other technical devices that now are used to deliver the liquid to hundreds of animals.

For his part the provincial subdelegate of cattle, Álvaro Aguilar Soto, highlighted the training that they have in the sector so that the technical knowledge are put into practice, he set as example the bank of biomass with fodder next to the unit of animals and for the extensive method, the cane and the king grass as variants in the dry epoch.

About the milk production, Aguilar Soto pointed out that the annual plan of delivery to the industry of 74 310 000 million litters, presents a deficit of 3.6 millions, delay that they estimate to recover with the increases in the gathering.

Around 70 % of the cattle in Camagüey in in the hands of the private farmers, with animals mainly hybrids and dispersed whose owners in many cases lack of knowledge and experiences of this branch for being lands in usufruct and some resist the application of the science and the technique in the improvement of the mass by means of the insemination.
