The increase in the last four years of almost 2 000 women to work in the fields is due to the facilities to build their houses within the area in usufruct, according to the Law 300, in force since December 2012 and modified this March.

These women have the suport of the Cuban Women Federation (FMC), organization that, along with the MINAG and the National Association of Small Farmers (ANAP), offers training and consultancies.

“The Woman plays a key role in the work in the fields. It is appreciated in the direct work and as a vital element  of each family benefited with the usufruct”, commented Iris Dalia Jiménez, member of the provincial direction of the FMC.

Nowadays, the usufruct constitute the main source of incomes of these women in Camagüey, which has more than 10 000 women working in many productive units, in charge of the food production.

The presence of the women working in the fields influences in a positive waythe re-ordering of the Cuban economic model, since it not only increases the posibilities of efficiency of the current work but it also promotes the probabilities of creation of new rural families.
