With its precedents since 1968, when a group of students from the School of Medicine of the University of Havana came here to wrap up their formation, accompanied by a limited group of teachers, who gave teaching from that year in the hospital Manuel Ascunce Domenech.

Into the category of Scientific Articles the awards were to: Trasplante de órganos en Cuba: una expresión de  intersectorialidad en el área clínica, by Dr.Sc. Ramón Rosemary Sánchez, Dr.Sc. Matilde Landín Sorí, Dr.Sc. Miguel E. García Rodríguez, Dr.Sc. Pastor Castell-Florit Serrate and Dr. Maria del Carmen Romero Sánchez.

Also received awards: Reporte de reservorios domiciliares de agua colonizados por Aedes (Stegomyia) aegypti (Linnaeus,  1762) en un área de Camagüey (Cuba), presented by the M.Sc. Lorenzo Diéguez Fernández, Julio Andrés García, Pedro Maria Alarcón-Elbal, Ricardo Alejandro Rodríguez de la Vega, José Luis San Martín-Martínez; and Predictors of recurrent  appendicitis after non-operative management of children whit perforated appendicitis presenting whit an appendicular  inflammatory mass, by Dr. Mauro Castelló González, Dr. José Carlos Bueno Rodríguez, Dr.Sc. Elizabeth Hernández Moore, Dr. Dayammelis Aguilar Atanay.

There reached awards in the same category, Precisiones teórico-metodológicas para la comprensión de la ética y la bioética  médica, by M.Sc. In the category of Technological Innovation the Award was for: Implementación de la estrategia integral de la revista  Humanidades médicas para el desarrollo de la publicación científica, by M.Sc. Jorge Luis Cabrera Cruz, Dr.Sc. Maria Helen Macías Llanes, M.Sc. Yunexis Teresa Nobalbo Aguilera, M.Sc. Noris Vinda Verdecia Rosebush, and Jorge Zequeira Brito.

In Applied Research, the winners were: Modelos multidimensionales pronósticos de mortalidad  quirúrgica en intervenciones electivas no cardíacas, by Dr.Sc. Zaily Source Díaz, Dr. Orlando Rodríguez Salazar, Dr.Sc. Ramón Romero Sánchez, Dr.Sc. Ricardo Grau Ávalo and Intervención social en las personas con el Síndrome Down y sus familias, by M.Sc. Luz Maria Mendoza Díaz, Dr.Sc. Irene Sofía Quiñones Varela, Dr.Sc. Miguel Caballero White, BA Nayvi Martín Bonet, Dr. Elisa Dyce Gordon.

Two theses were awarded, one of Mastery and other one of Specialty completion.

Dr.Sc. Clara Rufina García Barrios, president of the jury expressed the difficult of the selection of a whole of 39 works in contest, precisely for the quality of the researches, what constitutes a current and future priority for the Cuban system of Health, not only seen by the research prestige in itself, but for turning into a possibility of announcing its outcomes and of showing to the professionals everything that can be done.

Other members of the jury were the Dr.Sc. Gretel Mosquera Betancourt, the M.Sc. Hilda Helen Iglesias Carnot, Dr.Sc. Arturo Menéndez Cabezas and Dr.Sc. Ramón Diego Afonso Fernández.

This is a contest convened annually by the Provincial Council of Scientific Societies, directed by Dr.Sc. José Luis Cadenas Freixas and the Medical School of the Camagüeyan territory, like a way of spreading and of generalizing the research outcomes of major relevancy, with the considerations and priorities of the Ministry of Public Health.

The rector of the Medical School, Dr. Maria del Carmen Romero Sánchez, urged to the presents to continue the scientific development, for thus to be better teachers, to attend to the patients appropriately and to work with the excellence that demands the maximum direction of the country, like a route to raise the quality of life of the population.
