It would not be fair for teachers and pupils to judge the Higher Institute of the Arts for its years and not for its achievements. What in a beginning kicked off like Teaching Unit of the Higher Institute of the Arts (ISA), very quickly turned into the attainable and also unattainable goal for those that saw in the art their future.

The music major opened the stave of the subsidiary with the profile of guitar, to which have joined up to today, those of piano, violin, viola, flute, saxophone, trombonist, trumpet, clarinet, double bass and composition. Next it was the dance with the ballet specialty and later folk dance.

In 2002 kicked off to be formed the first professionals of the audio-visual world in the profiles of direction, sound, edition, photo and production that would come to reinforce the privileged place of Camagüey in this branch of the visual arts.

There are already 246 graduates of the Higher Institute of the Arts in addition to the 231 in postgraduate courses like that of Marti Studies, Linguistic Studies, Semiotics of the Arts and the Masters in Latin American Culture.

One of the founders of the institution, José Antonio Chávez, important personality inside the Ballet of Camagüey, first like ballet dancer and then like choreographer and teacher, admits that the culture in Camagüey had an earlier and a later since its creation. “In the Higher Institute of the Arts I grew up not just as intellectual and professionally, but also the province. To the Higher Institute of the Arts we must be grateful for contributing to the cultural development that today we have”.

Like the nomadic, itinerant university we all know; like this school that for the lack of a fixed head office has had to walk up and down, making use of those that stretch the hand so that it does not close its doors, leaving its stamp in every place of this city as if he did not want to have a proper place, although the truth is that it has it and needs it, but the repair of the building takes years.

I do not believe that they need another 25 years so that the such longed head office materializes; but if it were this way I doubt that this Higher Institute of the Arts that today before the sight of many just crawls, could not walk like the greatest of the experts.
