Leidi Conde Figueredo, director of technique and development of the entity, said that the sowings of this year are centered in Lima Persa, a line of work to increase gradually the supplying to the internal market and hotels and the gastronomy linked to the tourism.

In this moment the work is realized in dry land fields (without irrigation), making use of the station of the rains, but it turns out to be limited because the company has no vivariums.

The plants now are brought from Ciego de Ávila and other places, since there is no authorization to develop here vivariums, she told.

Carlos Ferrer, of the subsidiary in the province of the Institute of Vegetable Health, pointed out that for reasons of alertness and safety in Cuba there are only five areas authorized by ministerial resolution to develop vivariums of citrus.

These places are located in territories of Guantánamo, Ciego de Ávila, Cienfuegos, Matanzas and Pinar del Río.

Few years ago this cultivations suffered the attack of pests and illnesses in the region of the Caribbean Sea and the South of North America, and the phytosanitary control is directed to stop the advance of these damages.

Leidi Conde Figueredo added that in the new plantations fruit trees are sowed in an inserted way, among these pineapple, guava and papaya fruit, like part of a national program benefited with irrigation systems.
