The last precipitations, nevertheless, have saved the pride of the equinox; since almost at the end of March there is agricultural drought, with major accentuation in the municipalities of Santa Cruz del Sur, Sierra de Cubitas, Guáimaro, Vertientes, Esmeralda …

Sergio Barrios García delegated of the National Hydraulic Resources Institute (INRH) in Camagüey, meant that this month only rained 2,62 millimeters; the moisture for the precipitations scarcity descended from 60 % to 10; the dams report 350 million cubic meters (mm) of waters less that in equal date of the previous year, and the level of the underground aquifers of the south and north of the province is lowered in an alarming way, therefore this organism faced to restrict to 50 % the exploitation of these sources of service to the rural population and agricultural plans.

Out of the 199 communities attended by the INRH, 16 were presenting on Wednesday a critical situation of water supply with water tanks, and equal situation were facing other establishments linked to the Agriculture and AZCUBA. The cattle, according to Álvaro Aguilar, provincial subdelegate of the branch, was taking the liquid to approximately 10 000 animals, since 100 wells and 850 tanks were dry.

The 53 reservoirs of the territory accumulate only 33,3 % of filling, and the high temperatures will evaporate part of the water reserved in most of the dams lacking in surrounding replanting. Najasa Uno, depressed with scarcely five mm cannot already guarantee the water for the ricefields of the south way, and Jimaguayú, of 200 mm, that of major capacity of the province, with only 37 of filling approaches its death.

Julio Montano Iglesias, attached delegate of the Company of Hydraulic Use, ensured that the reservoirs that tribute to the aqueduct of the provincial capital store 55,3 % of its capacities, what does not mean that in the residential areas and big state consumers the water is wasted. In parallel with the leakings correction in networks and pipes, the saving, now when there are reservations, is vital not to return to the problems of the big drought of 2004-2005.

The delegate of INRH, Barrios García, ensured that to protect the population and centers of production of Nuevitas, for the scarcity of water in the dam Mañana de la Santa Ana, principal reservoir of supply of this city, they will make use of the good filling of the Cubano-Bulgara dam.
