CAMAGÜEY.- The seven children of Camagüey province—five from the head municipality and two from Florida—who suffered from COVID-19 in the first stage, are followed up in a multidisciplinary consultation designed for this purpose at the pediatric hospital Eduardo Agramonte Piña, of this city, reported Dr. Nancy Ratón Quintana, deputy director of Medical Assistance.

She added that the purpose is to detect possible aftereffects of the illness, that for being a new ailment worldwide, consequences are still unknown in their totality.

In this hospital, the conditions are created to receive these children and adolescents every week, who are screened by doctors Yamina Rivero Fernández, a second-degree specialist. in Pediatrics, Master in Infectious Illnesses and assistant professor, and David Rodríguez Bencomo, a 2nd degree specialist. in Intensive Therapy, Master in Comprehensive Care for Children and assistant professor, who have been providing counseling since the onset of the pandemic in the territory.

They lead the current team, consisting of experts in Cardiology, Neurology, Nutrition, Rehabilitation, Psychology, and from the Diagnostic and Guidance Center of the Ministry of Education, with the maximum that if any anomalies related to other branches of medicine are detected during the course of the research, they are guaranteed their proper consultation and treatment.

The closest relatives of these children up to the age of 19 who accompany them, including their family doctors or teachers who in some cases attend this consultation, are informed of what is examined and the results obtained.

They are all beneficiaries, apart from the screening where they are weighed and measured, they are given complementary examinations, they are given the required x-rays, in addition, electrocardiogram and echocardiogram, and depending on the results they are seen weekly until the monthly review, with the indication of a personalized rehabilitation, if necessary.

It is important to emphasize the purpose of anticipating any sequel left by the SARS-CoV-2 and solve it in a timely manner.

In most of these cases, they go through a normal life; however, some of them report that after this disease has passed, they present hair loss, fatigue and taste disorders.
