CAMAGUEY, Cuba, Jan 6 (ACN) With the purpose of surpassing the all-time record of 1,730 tons of shrimp delivered in late December, the Cultisur Base Business Unit (UEB by its Spanish acronym), located in Santa Cruz del Sur municipality, in the Cuban province of Camaguey, continues its efforts to improve its facilities.

By the end of 2019, the high survival rate of shrimp in 70 percent, and the yield per hectare with more than 900 kilograms, allowed reaching the referred record, which the entity expecting to surpass if starting working with remarkable technological improvements.

Several aerators will soon be installed there to oxygenate the water in the breeding and fattening tanks, equipment imported by the Ministry of the Food Industry, although efforts are already in progress to repair the dividing walls and electrify them.

The main goal of this task is to increase the delivery rates to 1,080 tons of shrimp per year in three-cycle periods of 100 to 120 days, Nelson Toledo, director of Cultisur, told ACN.

Besides, from this year the productions of the UEB -- which since 2015 have surpassed their plans and in 2018 reached 1,615 tons -- will be inserted into the Chinese market, Toledo said.

Chinese customs authorities recently conducted an inspection of the facilities and favorably certified the conditions of the products.
