CAMAGÜEY.- This Wednesday, Students and professors from the University of Camagüey Ignacio Agramonte Loynaz held a meeting with the vice president of the Councils of State and Ministers Roberto Morales Ojeda, who is present in the province as part of the official visit to this territory. This visit is led by the Cuban president Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez.

The rector of the University, Santiago Lajes Choy, shared the main scientific achievements of the institution with Morales Ojeda, as well as the more than 100 research projects linked to the local socio-economic development.

18 119 people study at the University of Camagüey estudian 18 119, in 10 faculties distributed along its three locations. Of those students, 5  342 are involved in postgraduate studies in any field of knowledge. Both undergraduate and postgraduate training represent opportunities to devise intervention stratergies for promoting local and territorial development, which turned into subject matter for analysis during the exchange.

The Cuban vice president Roberto Morales Ojeda recognized that results of the university in Camagüey are meaningful and noted that the systematic linkage between the Party and the Government with the university has been ascertained “Ignacio Agramonte Loynaz”.

However, the results of research led by its own workers in cooperation with the university do not apply in many production and service facilities. In this respect, Morales Ojeda pointed out that "the results that heve not been converted in innovation must be dusted" and "innovations must be mainstreamed" that can bring benefit to the economic production.

Seven ministers or deputy ministers also participated in the exchange, including the head of the Higher Education’s ministry in Cuba, José Ramón Saborido Loidi, as well as five other highest level leaders of the State central organizations.

Everyone agreed that, beyond the current achievements, has some way to go to provide to the main challenges of the Cuban economy, among which are the use throughout society, import substitution, export and the development of transport and tourism.

In addition to the relations at a territorial level with other Cuban ministries, the University of Camagüey Ignacio Agramonte Loynaz sustains intenational collaboration with institutions in 33 countries.

"Many people from Camagüey feel increasingly proud if this univerisity". That was the calling of the vice president of the Council of State and Ministers at the conclusion of the meeting, and before appreciating the stands from the National Student Forum of Technical Sciences. This event started this Wednesday at the University of Camagüey.

The second official visit to Camagüey will continue until this Thursday. Later the Cuban vice president Roberto Morales Ojeda will visit other sites of interest in the territory related to health and education.
