Led by the Ministry of Science, Technology and the Environment, the project will be executed in the Southeast periphery of the metropolis, with its limits in the recreational complex ¨El lago de los sueños¨, inaugurated at the beginnings of this year.

The intention of the installation will be to preserve the phytodiversity, the environmental education and the recreation of the population.

In its environment is located the Polytechnic School of Agronomy Álvaro Barba Machado, ancient Agricultural School, and that will be linked to the future Botanic Garden, according to the Provincial Broadcasting Station web site.

Among the actions foreseen until next December there are the making of the conceptual maps, the different reports of practicality, the floristic inventory and of local vegetation, and the exchange with specialists of similar spaces in the country.

Cuba has around seven thousand different species, of them approximately six indigenous ones, in accordance with consultations in the Internet.

The country is provided with a botanical garden network, and there stand out those of Cienfuegos -the most ancient-, Havana, Pinar del Río, Las Tunas, the Botanic Orchid Garden of Soroa, that of ferns in Santiago de Cuba and Cupaynicú, in the premountain range of the Sierra Maestra.

In Camagüey exists for several years a herbarium, which is a collection of plants or parts of them, dissected, preserved, identified and accompanied of critical information about the place of collection, common name and uses.
