CAMAGÜEY. - It grows and will keep on growing in Camagüey the access of its people to the Terrestrial Digital Television, this is the sustainable future in Cuba for the transmissions of radio and television. Since the world advances very rapidly, if we talk about technology, very few bet today on the analogical one, almost there are no spare parts and that turns its acquisition into a real problem.

THE PROBLEM INSIDE

The province, according to information contributed to Adelante.cu by Leandro Parada Echevarría, chief of the Division Camagüey of Radiocuba, has a coverage in standard sign (SD) of 72.5 % of its population. Possible thanks to five transmitters that are distributed in the majority of this wide territory. The most favored municipalities in this sense are the head (95 %) and Nuevitas (90 %).

Nevertheless, it was not possible to have advanced of equal way with the HD sign, since only one is provided with a transmitter in the whole province that includes 41 % of the Camagüey´s inhabitants. “The whole population is still not covered, bearing in mind that this is a province of big territorial extension and the installed transmitters are still insufficient, it would be necessary to cover almost all the municipalities or one of major potency in the provincial head”, told the engineer Parrada Echevarría.

In the last three years the chains Cimex and Caribe have sold more than 680 800 decode boxes and more than 70 800 hybrid TV sets, in addition to other accessories like coaxial cable, antennas and connectors. This matter needs a better congruity between sales and places with coverage. There are municipalities in which equipment to decode the sign have not still been sold and yes they can receive it, as Jimaguayú that gets it from Camagüey because of its closeness.

Neither the sale of receiving teams corresponds to that of its accessories: coaxial cables, antennas and connectors. This commits an outrage against the final quality of the image that is received in each of the TV sets. Likewise, the organisms must analyze better the places where they place the resources. “The sector of the Education deserves an alert, since there are municipalities that have TDT transmitters in standard sign, nevertheless, it was not there where most of the hybrid TV sets and the decode boxes that assigned the Department of Education to the province were distributed, what demonstrates that the distribution is not carried consulting with us”, said Parada.

FOR A NEARBY FUTURE

The coverage foresees that by the end of this year it could increase the number of Camagüey’s territories that enjoy the Digital Television, principally in High Definition (HD). It should be born in mind that for every analogical channel it is possible to transmit an average of eight digital channels, with better quality in the sign and much more economic.

The municipalities were selected strategically thinking that with a transmitter it should be possible to cover major quantity of area and of population. Esmeralda, Nuevitas and Santa Cruz will have by the end of this year HD sign and with this place the coverage would close enough in the totality of the territory. Equally, Sierra de Cubitas will be able to enjoy in a few months of the standard sign.

The province digitizes its transmissions, for good of theirs and for the economy of the country. In this effort Radiocuba, with its troop of brave men, defies every day the heights and puts all its determination to accomplish that Camagüey very quickly, more than some of them think, sees everything in HD.
