CAMAGÜEY.- The Direction of Investigation of the Office of the Historian of Camagüey carries out archaeological digs in the park José Martí of this city, from beginning of the present month, with the target to find the foundations of the ancient convent of San Francisco.
After the church of Jesus's Sacred Heart was constructed, the building was demolished in 1923, it had its area in the current street Luaces and the task of finding architectural objects is carried out as a result of an investigation made 10 years ago.
The team of investigation chose the place from ancient photos, and tests of radar done in 2008 that prove the place of a clerical house in the current park José Martí.
The specialists and technical staff of the entity, as well as archaeologists and students of the school of offices, unite efforts in indefinite time to exhibit in the First Workshop of Historical and Archaeological Studies in Urban Contexts, which will take place in Camagüey from November 10 until November 23, explained to Adelante Jenny Patricia Mujica, specialist in historical archaeology.
