VERTIENTES, CAMAGÜEY. - The starting of a modern drying room of rice of Brazilian technology PAGE in the Managerial Unit of Base (UEB) Teófilo Duarte Delgado, offers, among other benefits, the possibility of using the rice rind as a fuel to make the drying towers work and therefore save up to 2 048 liters of diesel a day.

Michel Bayate Camejo, general manager of the Agro-industrial Complex of Grains Ruta Invasora expressed to Adelante Digital that they have aspirations to increase the use of renewable energy on having turned the husk, environmental debit that suffers long decomposition periods, into economic assets to generate energy.

“We wanted that the country approved us the investment to acquire technology that allows us to incinerate it. This way we would make use of 142 tons of husk that take place every day when the industry is to full capacity, and in addition to the energy, the ash can be used for the construction of blocks and for the metallurgy”, assured Bayate Camejo.

The rind of rice, obtained in the industrial prosecution of cleanliness of the grain, stays as a agro-industrial residue, which for its low thickness occupies big volumes and creates a big problem at the time of thinking where to deposit it.

This garbage provokes affectations the environment, because the same ones are stored in places open or burned outdoors, generating an ash with high content of silica (SiO2), very pollutant for the soil and the aquifer.
