CAMAGÜEY.- The Program of Small Donations (PPD) of the World Fund for the Environment, of the Program of the United Nations for the Development, approved the project Butterfly Park, for the Botanical Park of this city (PBC).

This installation will propitiate the sustainable handling of the day butterflies in the Popular CouncilJulio Antonio Mella, of the capital of Camagüey.

During a meeting of specialists summoned by the provincial delegation of the Department of Science, Technology and Environment, Dra. Maricela Guerra, of the University of Camagüey Ignacio Agramonte Loynaz(UC), exhibited the functioning of the Butterfly Park and how it will contribute to the conservation of species, which - certain arrival development stage - will be liberated in the Nature.

For his part, Fabio Fajardo, national coordinator of the PPD, did precisions about the approval of this national project, and of the bases and norms that govern the program, held now to the approval process for the Department Exterior Commerce and the Foreign investment, in accordance with the Cuban norms for the international cooperation.

The technical consultancy of the Butterfly Park will be in charge of the UC, along with other actions of the organizational process, while the PBC will contribute space for its construction and will assume the civil work of the above-mentioned installation.

Belonging to the group of animals that has a major number of species: the insects, and inside this classification the order of the lepidopterist ones corresponds to them, it is anticipated that there exist approximately 200 thousand species of butterflies and moths in the planet, although up to the date only thousand have been described about 130.

The day butterflies, of which hundreds of species exist, have redeemed an important role along the natural history of the Earth. Apart from the beauty that they contribute to the environment, his interest takes root also in the process of pollination, which allows the fertilization and development of the verdant grove.
