CAMAGÜEY.- With the purpose of renewing its equipment and improving working conditions, the Furniture Base Business Unit (MADUC) of this province will invest over a million dollars.

Semi-automatic machines from China and European countries will be installed in the 103 workshop of the aforementioned entity, which has two other facilities in the territory, which with the planned unification will also be favored with the assembly of a centralized dust extraction system.

Elpidio Nordelo Basulto, director of MADUC, told that most of the technology in operation in its production units has been in operation for 20 to 40 years, although in the area of upholstery there are Singer sewing machines dating from 1940.

The furniture industry's production in Camagüey is made from wood and panels, both processes can be carried out simultaneously with the new investment, as they have the same work area, said the manager, while indicating the creation of new paint booths that will be added to the
existing one.

In the last five years, MADUC has met all its economic indicators, a trend that continues at the end of the first semester of the current year, a result that translates in the salary increase of its employees who currently earn an average salary of more than one thousand pesos.

With three decades of work in this industry, Maritza Fon Grimón, one of the five women directly involved in production, told the Agency that she was delighted by the system of labor improvement implemented in the organization, which allows her to receive better remuneration in line with
compliance with the rules and without interruptions.

The young Yannier Soriano, head of the Painting Brigade, also spoke about the training of the workers in the sector as a very valuable human capital capable of achieving better quality assortments and better design.

Sets of living and dining room furniture, tables for computer equipment, cribs, and office and hotel rooms’ furniture are included among the products marketed by the entity on behalf of the state for tourism and sales to the population in the Foreign Currency Collection Stores and the network
of units of the Ministry of Domestic Trade.

MADUC also offers repair services in its three workshops located in the municipality of Camagüey, with some 130 workers.
