CAMAGUEY.- The 15th International Conference on Economic and Business Sciences began its debates on Tuesday in Camaguey with a look at the island’s economy in the current context which presents several challenges that must be looked at through science.

During the opening of the event sponsored by the University of Camaguey, PhD in Economic Sciences, Angela Palacios Hidalgo referred to some of the challenges of the sector in order to advance in the interests of a prosperous and sustainable development.

Contributions of mechanisms for the implementation of the Guidelines of the Economic and Social Policies of the Communist Party and Revolution is, according to the specialist, a major commitment of the economic sciences in the country, guaranteeing the solid basis of the changes to come.

The Professor of the University of Camaguey also referred to the need for the autonomous business to promote constant innovation and encourage the workers to participate in the processes and stimulate the effective closure of the research-innovation-production cycle as well as the use of market and competitive mechanisms.

Autonomous business, investment in flexible technologies, public policies that encourage productive connection, increase of small and medium businesses and the restructuring of the current enterprise system, were other elements discussed.

Other professors participating in the event also reflected on the dual currency as an important challenge for the Cuban economy, although it worked in a specific moment in time, it now results as an obstacle to stimulate vital processes like exportation.

The conference, with the assistance of professionals from Mexico, Argentina, Spain, Ecuador and Venezuela, also discussed the link University-Company-Government, countable and financial management and the student experiences in economic sciences.

The event will run until Thursday with other issues in the program like, sustainable tourism management, local development and professional formation.
