CAMAGUEY.- (ACN) The Company of Pharmacies and Opticians, of the province of Camagüey, surpassed in an eight percent the 5.1 million bottles of Natural and Traditional Medicine (MNT) planned for 2017.

To a large extent, the production of 98 lines, which included phytopharmaceuticals, aphdugs, homeopathic medicines and floral therapy, was made possible thanks to the supply of the vegetable and honey mass by the delegation of the Ministry of Agriculture, said Alexander Padrón, technical director of the entity, told ACN.

From the 34 processing units belonging to the Company - two local production centers and 32 pharmacies with dispensaries - medicines of natural origin were guaranteed, which were subsequently marketed in the network of establishments they have for that purpose.

Among the MNT drugs most demanded by the population were the syrups against the flu and the Imefasma bronchodilator, a leading product of the province, the tincture of sour orange, very useful to counteract circulatory problems, and passionflower in sublingual drops.

In addition there are the four variants of shampoo without salt, the preparation for frictions, and the antifungal, a fluid extracted from male pine trees.

However, the elaboration of creams, another of the natural products that the people of this province use extensively, was weakened due to the low availability of solid petrolatum and alcohol, essential chemical components for their manufacture, according to Padrón.

By 2018, the Company plans to add seven lines of tea, obtained from plants such as chamomile, guava, linden, among others, and which will be sold in a large number of community pharmacies throughout Camagüey.
