CAMAGÜEY.- (ACN) More than two thousand 100 megawatt hours (mW / h) have been generated in this province through solar energy, so far this year, thanks to the operation of the two photovoltaic parks installed in the province, in the municipality of Guáimaro and in this city.

According to data provided by Yonis León, Specialist in Renewable Energy Sources (RES) of the Empresa Eléctrica de Camagüey, with the historical generation of both parks, the first one in use since 2013 and the second one since a year ago, they stopped issuing more than 2 thousand 280 tonnes of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.

In addition to the reduction of the pollutant load because photovoltaic energy is clean, some 2 60000 tonnes of crude oil were saved, which favors Cuba's economy, which by 2030 aims to reach 24 percent of its generation through the RES.

To contribute to this commitment, Camagüey must change its energy matrix by up to 26 percent of clean energy for that decade, a figure that now seems distant, as it is far below what has been pointed out, said the specialist.

This year, the installation of a new 8-hectare park is anticipated, in front of the Company of Recovery of Raw Materials in the outskirts of this city, which will generate 4.4 mW / h when synchronized with the National Electroenergetic System .

In the medium and long term, in the province, other projects will be developed to achieve the stated goal, such as the installation of eight other solar farms, a wind farm, three bioelectric plants and 11 small hydroelectric plants, throughout the whole territory.

It is also intended to take advantage of other renewable sources such as urban, agricultural and industrial waste, and forest biomass.

In the world, the use of renewable sources is gaining more prominence every time, as well as considerably reduce the pollution of the environment by the burning of fossil fuels, are more economically sustainable, after the initial investment.

Data published by the non-governmental organization CUBASOLAR point out the main lines in which the country works in the field of renewable energy, and sunlight occupies one of the first places, because that star is able to bring to Earth, in a day, the energy consumed in a whole year.
