CAMAGÜEY. - This province already has nineteen National Monuments, due to the inclusion of the Battle of Naranjo-Mojacasabe, of the municipality of Najasa, in this list of more than 530 in Cuba, according to the Office of Monuments and Historical Places of the Provincial Center of Cultural Heritage.

From April 4th, a fact that happened in February, 1874 is recognized this way, this fact showed the tactical and strategic genius of the major general Máximo Gómez along with the Liberating Army against a Spanish column, in the pasture Naranjo and near the river and the hamlet named Mojacasabe.

This condition comes from the work of the National Commission of Monuments assigned to the Department of Culture, entrusted of establishing the historical centers, the constructions, the places and the objects like National or Local Monuments.

The news accentuates the connotations of last April 18, International Day of the Monuments, focused towards the rural sceneries, and that in Camagüey it was dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the victory of the Cuban Revolution and to Camilo Cienfuegos, figure linked to the territory up to his physical disappearance in 1959.

That the foreseen program on Thursday, there was the trips and the talks as principal options in areas with hereditary values of the municipalities of Camagüey, Sibanicú, Nuevitas, Florida, Minas, Santa Cruz del Sur, Vertientes, Esmeralda, Guáimaro, Najasa and Carlos Manuel Céspedes.

Started in the Agramonte Park, at 9:00 a.m., with the floral gift before the equestrian statue to Ignacio Agramonte, the eponymous hero of Camagüey, and there was the award ceremony of the children´s contest dedicated to the protection of the monuments, summoned by the Provincial Center of Cultural Heritage and the Office of the Historian of the City of Camagüey.

In the Center of Interpretation of the Patrimony, where there is located the scale model of the urban historical center of this metropolis, there was the theoretical meeting about the representation of indigenous species in the assembly of the museum of Vertientes, and questions of the General Cemetery of Camagüey, among other topics.
