CAMAGÜEY.- The cultural tradition of the country is marked by the imprint of the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz, said in the city of Camagüey the National Prize of Literature 2018, Luis Álvarez Álvarez.

When attending the panel Fidel and the culture, organized by the Camagüey´s Committee of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC), and led by Jorge Santos Caballero, the also Doctor in sciences highlighted the extraordinary capacity of dialogue of the Commander in chief over culture, among other branches of knowledge.

He explained that the former Villa de Santa Maria del Port del Principe had been advocating a true university since the 17th century, which was impregnated on November 6th, 1967 with the opening of the University of Camagüey, the first created by the Cuban Revolution.

Alvarez emphasized the links of Fidel with higher education with a continuous policy and pointed out that the Revolution transformed the meaning of the university by giving it a scientific character, introducing the specialties and opening to international conventions.

The new social system on the island made available to students, peasants and workers without distinction of classes, beliefs and political orientation, higher education, which was then universalized until reaching the municipalities.

As the Doctor of Sciences Olga García Yero recognized that one of the great achievements of the Cuban Revolution was the restoration of a system of teaching of the arts at all levels, together with the creation of cultural institutions.

She emphasized the training of art instructors as a prelude to the National School of Art, later became University of the Arts, one of the wonders of civil architecture in the insula.

For his part, the film critic Armando Pérez Padrón deepened the importance that Fidel conceded to the cinema from the same guerrilla struggle in the Sierra Maestra and that after the triumph of the Revolution took him to every corner of the national territory through the mobile cinema.

It adds to his ideas, the emergence on June 6, 1960, of the Latin American News ICAIC, directed by Santiago Álvarez that reflected in more than 1800 emissions faces, situations, the throbbing of the existence in every corner of the island and the world.

He said that the Cuban leader saved the Latin American film project of Villa del Mar, frustrated after the military coup in Chile on September 11, 1973, when he established the international Festival of the new Latin American Cinema of Havana on December 3, 1979 and inaugurate the International Film and Television School of San Antonio de los Baños, where hundreds of young people from the region have graduated.
