HAVANA.- The 8th International Event of Pantomime, Havana 2018, that will be held from June 20th to June 24th with the involvement of 34 mimes from 6 different countries, will be devoted to the topic of identity, paying also tribute to the Brazilian mime, Miqueias Da Paz.

Maritza Acosta, director of the theatre company Cuerpo Fusión and president of the organizing committee for the event, informed to the press that this year the majority of scheduled activities will be based on Cuban identity, via shows, conferences, performances and parades.

Acosta announced that typical characters of the art comedy and the Cuban comical theatre like the negrito, the Galician and the mulatto, tasting of traditional dishes and the Rueda de Casino project from 1830 will have a space at the event.

At the meeting that took place at the Cultural Communication Center, the actress explained that musicians like Tony Avila and Havana de Primera, Jordi Leal with his project dedicated to incorporate artwork in guayaberas, and artist Camil Bullaudi with a performance and discussion about his work, will participate in this event.
She also discussed that this 8th edition will commemorate the 25th anniversary of the theater company Cuerpo Fusión, and it will be dedicated to Da Paz, due to his work merging pantomime with the Brazilian cultural heritage, through elements like samba, prevalent at his work.

The award ceremony of the Gesto Vivo contest, for mimes up to 35 years old, in the direction and performance categories with small and large format works and the graduation of 5 artists of the company’s teaching unit will be held during the closing ceremony at June 24th.

Concerning this event of biennial basis, which will be held at the cultural center Bertolt Brecht, Marissa Acosta commented that this event is the only one of its type in Cuba that groups mimes from all over the world. Its goal is to keep alive this theatre ancient technique, whom Cuba had made significant contributions.
