HAVANA.- The Acosta Danza company will perform on April 25, 26 and 27 at the New York City Center as part of the Adelante, Cuba! Festival, an event that will include leading Cuban artists.

Acosta Danza, a company founded and directed by dancer Carlos Acosta, will present a programme of acclaimed works from its repertoire, such as Alrededor no hay nada by Goyo Montero and the duet Mermaid by Belgian choreographer Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui.

New Yorkers will also enjoy El cruce sobre el Niagara, a classic of modern Cuban choreography, created by Marianela Boán in 1987, and "Nosotros", by the young Beatriz García and Raúl Reinoso, announced Lester Vila Pereira, press director of the dance group.

The show concludes with the piece Twelve, by the Spaniard Jorge Crecis, in which dance and sport, mathematics and physics are mixed.

In addition to these performances, dancer Carlos Luis Blanco, a member of Acosta Danza, will offer a demonstration class for American dance students and professionals, on the rigorous daily training of the dancers of the Cuban company.

The Adelante, Cuba! Festival is conceived as a celebration of the island's artistic richness, with dance, music, talks and master classes, according to Vila Pereira.

In addition to Acosta Danza, the program includes the participation of Omara Portuondo, Arturo O'Farrill, The Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra, Yasek Manzano, Roberto Fonseca, Telmary Díaz, Camerata Romeu and tap artist Ayodele Casel.
