Avilanian Players Receive Recognition of the People

The team of Ciego de Avila, which won the crown of the 51st Cuban National Baseball Series, received on Tuesday the 50th Anniversary Commemorative Medal of the UJC, from Julio Gomez Casanova, first secretary of the UJC.

altGomez gave the high acknowledgment to Yorbis Borroto, secretary of the Communist Youth League on the team and captain of the squad.

Roger Machado Morales, Coach of Ciego de Avila, told reporters that the victory after 6 months of hard training, tactics and strategies, does not only belong to the team but also to all who helped it, especially the Avilanian people.

He said the award given by the UJC is an incentive to play better in the next championship and retain the crown.

In the case of Industriales team, the capital’s representatives were also welcomed by its people and fans in a ceremony held at the Pavilion Cuba in the popularly busy Rampa promenade in Vedado, a Havana neighborhood.

In welcoming Los Azules of the capital, the brave runner-ups were received by Mercedes López Acea, member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of Cuba and first secretary of the organization in the province, along with Marta Hernandez Romero, president of the city government.

The occasion also allowed members of the team to socialize and recognize their efforts in the championship playoffs.
