Camaguey.- All Camaguey-resident boxers that are taking part in Kazakhstan President's Boxing Cup 2012, in the city of Almaty, will step onto the ring on Saturday, in the semi- final round of this tournament.

Julio César La Cruz, who is the captain of Cuba’s national squad, made it to the semi-final once he defeated Kazak Arman Risket, 13-5; while his team-mate Yasnier Toledo beat Kyrgyz Bekman Soylibayev, 14-8.

Another Camaguey-resident boxer in this tournament is middleweight Ramón Luis, who makes his debut today. Due to the low number of boxers in this division, Ramón Luis will climb onto the ring to fight for a medal.

Other Cubans that will box today are Yosvany Veitía (49 kg), flyweight Robeisy Ramírez and José Ángel Larduet (91 kg). For his part, world champion Lázaro Álvarez (56 kg), light welterweight Richard Poll and Erislandy Savon (+91) won their passports for semi-finals.

Only welterweight Adrián Lescay will not be competing for a bronze medal because he lost his combat against Kazak Kosabekov Bakhitjan.

The final round of this tournament will take place on Sunday.  Kazakhstan President's Boxing Cup is part of Cuban boxing team preparation for the 2012 Olympics, for which London is the official host.

At the same time, Roniel Iglesias, Arisnoidys Despaigne and Emilio Correa are seeking their passport for the summer showcase in Great Britain, in the Olympic Qualifier Tournament which is held in Rio de Janeiro.
