Buenos Aires.- Argentinian tennis player Juan Martin del Potro on Tuesday expressed his appreciation, via his website, for the support of his countrymen after returning to the top ten of world tennis.
According to Del Potro, winner of the U.S. Open in 2009, a year ago he was in the 485th place in the ranking; however, he is currently ranking among the top ten thanks to the support of his fans, who encouraged him to return.
Del Potro, who was out of the professional circuit due to a sprained right wrist, ranks 10th in the world list released on Monday by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP).
The upturn is due to his performance in the first Grand Slam of the season, the 2012 Australian Open Championships, in which he advanced to the quarterfinals, until he was defeated by Swiss player Roger Federer.
After winning nine titles, totaling 194 victories and 92 defeats in his career, Del Potro wants to continue moving up on the ATP rankings and reach his best performance while representing his country at the 2012 Olympics in London.
