Cuba: A Paradigm in Sexual Education, Says UN Expert PDF Print E-mail

HAVANA, Cuba, (acn) Mary Guinn Delaney, advisor of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Regional Office on HIV/AIDS Education for Latin America and the Caribbean, said today in this capital that Cuba is a paradigm in sexual education.
The UNESCO expert told ACN that Cuba’s work in this field is a point of reference to many countries. She also highlighted the results achieved in the last decades and the changes implemented.

Among these results and changes, Guinn Delaney mentioned the development of programs on women’s reproductive health, which have been adapted to a more comprehensive approach and is one of the most advanced
in the region.

This continuity and the intellectual work that Cuban specialists have carried out serve as reference to researches and assessments, which are important tools to other nations.

Guinn Delaney is attending the 5th Cuban Congress on Sexual Education, Orientation and Therapy, which concludes today in Havana with theparticipation of 300 delegates from a dozen countries.

On Thursday, she presented UNESCO’s proposal regarding the technical guidelines for education in sexuality.

The expert announced that their action plan will take into account the Cuban experience in this field. Besides, she praised the work of the Caribbean island in the prevention of and education on HIV/AIDS.

Also on Thursday, delegates analyzed the breakthroughs and perspectives of sexual therapy and the strategies of the Cuban National Group working in this area as well as Cuba’s response to the HIV/AIDS pandemic.
